More clothes than the law should allow

Wyatt has a lot of clothes for such a small baby. Just the clothes for his first three months outnumber those in my entire wardrobe! We were fortunate to get a lot of hand-me-downs and so many cute clothes from the two baby showers I have had. Because our house is so small,  the closet in the nursery is full of my own clothes. We needed to get an armoire to hold all of Wyatt’s clothes so we wouldn’t have to sacrifice any closet space.

Luckily, Justin is quite the handy carpenter. Last Christmas, he built all of our new kitchen cabinets. He finished up our little man’s armoire just before he hurt his hand last week. I got almost all of the 0-3 month clothes hung up today and I can’t wait to see our little boy in each and every adorable little outfit!

Baby shower fit for a cowboy!

Becky hosted a beautiful shower for me this weekend and I have to admit—she rocks the hostessing gig like no one else I know. I am so blessed to have such great friends and I count Becky at the top of the list.

She had the cutest decorations and yummy food. It was divine.

The cake was super special because it was made by the same woman who made both mine and Becky’s wedding cakes. She is awesome. The best part? Becky gave her a picture of the stick horse we have in Wyatt’s nursery and she was able to capture it on the cake!

We played fun games that kept everyone laughing the whole time. When Becky asked for volunteers for the first game, my friends Brittany and Jessica and I jumped up. We had to all chug a baby bottle and see who finished first. I now know why babies are so cranky…those bottles were hard to get anything out of!

Later on, my niece Rivers wanted to play so we let her face off with my sister Sami.

Mallory won the second game.

Becky asked everyone to bring some loose change to the shower. When it came time for some more fun, she brought out Wyatt’s first piggy bank (awwww!) and passed it around and asked everyone to put their “two cents in” and give me advice or a funny story of what to expect from motherhood. It was really great!

Of course, I got some great gifts but the best gift was spending time with such a great group of girls! I couldn’t have asked for a better gift than that!

Maternity pictures

Here are some sneak peeks from the maternity pictures my sister took over the weekend. We didn’t finish up until after 7:00 last night and she posted them to Facebook around 3:00 a.m.! They are perfect. I can’t wait for them to get back from the beach because she’s doing a lot of editing while she’s soaking up rays.

My husband is such a jokester.  I didn’t even know Sami had taken this picture.

This one was my absolute favorite. Thanks to two of Wyatt’s favorite aunties (Suzi had to work) for helping get this done!

A second shower

One of my best good friends (shout out to Forrest Gump!), Becky, so kindly offered to host a baby shower in my and Wyatt’s honor tomorrow. I am so excited because the guest list is comprised mostly of girls we went to high school with. I think it’ll great to be able to catch up. Aren’t these the cutest invites? They fold up to look like a baby diaper. I think they’re just clever!

Baby Shower

Here are a few shots from my first baby shower yesterday.

The sweetest group of ladies that work with my mama hosted it and were so thoughtful.

Here are a few fun gifts we’ve gotten for Wyatt:

My SIL crocheted this blanket and I love the stars that spell out his name. And yes! That’s the Vera Bradley diaper bag in my new favorite boy-friendly pattern.

We got some really cute bags to carry his gear in from a long-time friend of the family. Justin was happy to see some more manly stuff like the camo bag.

We got this bib from my mama. It really reminds me of the scene on Talladega Nights where Ricky Bobby’s best friend says he likes to imagine Jesus in one of those tuxedo t-shirts because, “it says I want to be formal, but I'm here to party.”

This cute organizer is completely full of socks, blankets, wipes, towels and robes from the shower.

Here is the thank you card I made.

We are so blessed to have so many great friends and family that support us. Wyatt is surely going to be one loved little boy!

This is where I will be…

Tomorrow! I am so excited for my very first baby shower for Wyatt! It seems so real that he will be with us in a few short weeks. I can hardly contain my enthusiasm.

A quick hospital stay

For the past few weeks, I have had a constant pain in my lower right back. It is in the same place that has hurt before every time I have had a kidney infection, so I went to my doctor’s office to get checked out a few weeks ago. After taking a sample, the nurse practitioner told me she didn’t think I had any infection because I had no fever or other symptoms, even though prior kidney infections had been the exact same way. They convinced me that my back pain was just attributed to how I was carrying Wyatt and it would just be a nuisance I would have to learn to live with until he was born.

Unsatisfied with the diagnosis, I pushed the issue last week at my regular monthly checkup. A co-worker of mine told me to trust my instinct and that no one knows my body better than I do, so I asked the nurse to check again. Since I have a great doctor, they checked me again and sent my sample off to the lab for cultures. They gave me a pamphlet of simple exercises and tips to help with my back pain in the mean time.

This Wednesday afternoon,  the nurse from my doctor’s office called and asked if I could come in immediately for an IV antibiotic. It turns out that the cultures came back with a much nastier, very resistant bacteria that couldn’t be treated with oral antibiotics in pregnant women. I was shaking terribly as I told my coworkers that I had to leave immediately and that I probably wouldn’t be at work the next day. I quickly made calls to Justin and my mama and filled them in and Mama insisted on coming to Tifton to be with me while I got my infusion. At the doctor’s office, they informed me they were writing me orders to head to the hospital for my IV and that more than likely I would have to be admitted and have an overnight stay to get the entire course of antibiotics.

A quick call to Justin got him to leave the EMS (where he was working) from 40 miles away. He stopped by our house and picked up my overnight bag and packed me the necessities. In the mean time, Mama kept me company in the hospital where I was hooked up to the IV. Between the time I spoke to Justin and the time he got there, my doctor came in and told me that my stay would be extended to 48 hours and I wouldn’t be home until Friday night. Justin got there just after we got the bad news. Poor Justin had to sleep in an awful chair and probably didn’t get much rest at all.

Thankfully, the nurses in the Womens’ Pavilion are so great at Tift Regional! Justin, Mama and my sister Sami took great care of me over the past few days. My in-laws, including my SIL, visited and called to check in. All of my friends and coworkers were so sweet, texting and sending me encouraging messages on Facebook. I am really a lucky girl with all of the loving people I have surrounding me!

Today, I got the great news that I would be able to go home early. I was discharged and completely out of the hospital by 12:30 this afternoon. I was one happy girl! There’s nothing worse than being in the hospital, relatively healthy but tethered to an IV.

When I got home, I saw this sight:

 DSCN0835 DSCN0836 DSCN0838 DSCN0843 DSCN0831 DSCN0832

A sparkling clean house thanks to my mother-in-law, SIL, nephews and niece. The dining room floor was still wet from being freshly mopped. They must have left within minutes before my arrival. As I was checking out the impressive sight (noting the lit candles and fresh flowers in mason jars scattered throughout the house), my sister said, “I didn’t know you got a new stove!” At that point, I didn’t know I got a new stove, either. My sweet husband had been to Lowes the night before and was up past 10:00 last night putting it in! Have I mentioned how lucky I am?

All is well now with me—my back pain has reduced dramatically, and most importantly, baby Wyatt is under no distress and has experienced no negative effects. My doctor said he is progressing right on schedule and will be joining us in May just as they told me. I have a whole relaxing weekend ahead of me to catch up and rest.
